Gianmarco's Masterpiece Born: 9 Sep 2006 Colour: white

Gianmarco's Masterpiece is a real pleasure to have here at Barnacre Alpacas. Sometimes in life you are in the right place at the right time and this happened to us when we had the chance to acquire him and the amazing Legend of Spartacus at the same time.

The combination of stunning phenotype (physical characteristics), genotype (his sire is Jolimont Gianmarco who is one of the most decorated and consistent males in the Australian show ring, and who cost a record AUS$165,000 for a half share) and a fleece to die for make him a super herdsire with a very promising future.

Gianmarco's Masterpiece is Legend's best friend although he tends to lead when it is time to move around the paddock. He enjoys the company of his 'lady friends' and enjoyed a busy 2009. We are delighted with his cria in 2010...

Please visit his stud page for more information.

Golden Guinea Born: 21 June 2005 Colour: light brown

Golden Guinea Golden Guinea - 28 August 2008

Full details of the charming Golden Guinea can be found on his stud page.

We searched long and hard for a herd sire to bring colour to the Barnacre breeding programme, and with Golden Guinea we got solid colour; a big, soft fleece; a well proportioned, athletic body; and a friendly, inquisitive personality.

Golden Guinea enjoys the attention of visitors and is quite vocal, happily humming away. His favourite past time is watching the 'ladies' over his fence.

He has covered several females, with his first cria born in the Summer of 2009.  Since then he has had several more cria including four here at Barnacre, all are coloured and displaying his chilled out personality.

Hughie Born: 28 June 2007 Colour: light fawn

Hughie - July 2007 Hughie - 27 Jan 2008

Hughie - June 2008 1

Hughie - 27 March 2009

Fourth cria of Duchess and third son, Hughie was the first boy of the Barnacre herd and is our only gelding (castrated male).  He is sired (fathered) by Blenheim Gideon. He was born premature and required Debbie's helping hand and 24 hour care for the first few days of his life. Perhaps because of this, if it's a butch male alpaca you are looking for then Hughie is definitely not your man. He's very vocal and enjoys the attention of anyone who enters the paddock. If you only meet one alpaca in your life, make sure it's Barnacre Hughie, he is super inquisitive and loves meeting 'his public'.

Catching him in the open isn't very difficult when he's stood by your side with his head under your arm! Hughie has a dense buttery apricot coloured fleece with great brightness. He won third place in the junior fawn class at the 2008 Kelso show, Scotland. He was also awarded the best fleece at the 2008 Slayley show - gold star Hughie, very well done! Hugie ended 2008 with 2nd male fawn alpaca at the Westmorland show. 2009 started with 4th place (intermediate fawn male) at the Northumberland show and ended with 4th place (adult fawn male) at the Yorkshire show. Hughie has continued his international superstar status with an appearance in the Morpeth Herlald, and on 15 March 2009 appeared on BBC Countryfile with the rest of the Barnacre herd.

Please be Hughie's friend on Facebook !

Kazuo Born: 15 May 2010 Colour: white

  Kazuo 19 June 2010 Kazuo's fleece at 3 months (sire: Gianmarco's Masterpiece)

Kazuo, meaning first born son and he was just that, for his mum Alice and dad Gianmarco's Masterpiece.

He is a well grown boy who has a very impressive fleece, even at such a young age.

Kazuo is very friendly and will be missed when he heads off to his new home shortly.  Keep posted to find out where he is heading.

Legend of Spartacus Born: 16 November 2006 Colour: white

We had been aware of Legend of Spartacus for many months when one day we happened to be in the right place at the right time to aquire him and his best friend Gianmarco's Masterpiece.

If we were given the opportunity to 'design' a fleece then it would probably look and feel just like Legend's. It is fine, soft, crimped and very bright. Inquisitive visitors are very welcome to come and experience his quality for themselves.

Legend has awe inspiring genetics that you would be hard pushed to replicate anywhere in the UK, with the famous Jolimont Commisario for a grand sire enhanced by the amazing EP Cambridge Peruvian Spartacus, arguably the number one Australian herdsire with a super fine, dense fleece and a presence to make you tremble! Full details of Legend can be found on his stud page.

Although Legend tends to follow Gianmarco's Masterpiece when it's time to move, he dominates the trough at meal times. Don't ask how we found out but he does like to have his chin tickled - what are we like...oh yes and did we mention that he has a neck that is so thick and powerful you wouldn't believe it?

Loki   Born: 12 June 2007 Colour: black

Loki October 2007 Loki - 5 June 2008

Kelso - 26 July 2008 Loki - 2 October 2008

Loki - 27 March 2009

Loki is the third cria and first son of Geena. He is the result of Griffin (blue black) and was a big 9.4 kilos at birth. He has a blue black fleece of extreme softness with good character. He is following in the footsteps of his elder multi prize winning half sisters with a 2nd place (junior black) at the 2008 Northumberland show; 1st intermediate black male and black champion at the Scottish National, the Border Union show in Kelso; and 2nd intermediate black male at the Westmorland show. In 2009 Loki was 1st intermediate black male at the Northumberland show and 3rd adult black male at the Yorkshire show. We have great expectations for Loki's stud career on the back of his fantastic pedigree, huge 'tackle' and show success. Loki has come on leaps and bounds in the last few months and is now interested in posing to Golden Guinea and taking his share of the girls. His first 'date' was with Kate, our medium grey girl, he has gone on to cover two more of the herd. 2011 countdown now commences!

Minimus Born: 17 July 2010 Colour: fawn

This is Minimus, born to Chiquita whilst we were at the Otterburn Festival.  More updates to follow about the cutist alpaca in the world!  He was a tiny 4kg at birth, but has now reached double figures and on 22nd August was weighing in at just over 10kg.

Niveous Born: 4 July 2010 Colour: white

Ochre Born: 28 May 2010 Colour: brown

Ochre 28 May 2010 Ochre 14 June 2010

Ochre 15 August 2010

From Kate, our medium grey girl with attitude, and the super chilled and proud Golden Guinea, Ochre ("O-ker") is nosey, very friendly and has a smashing brown fleece any hand spinner/knitter would be desperate to get hold of!

Ochre is constantly on the look out for mischief whether it be annoying other herd members, poking his nose into whatever we are doing, or running along side some poor unsuspecting horse and rider.

Pearson Born: 18 June 2010 Colour: fawn

This is Pearson, named after our good friends Carol & Dave Pearson (knitter and button man), who spotting him just born in the field.  More updates to follow, just for Carol and Dave !

Sandstorm Born: 10 July 2009 Colour: medium fawn

Sandstorm - 10 July 2009 Sandstorm - 11 July 2009

Sandstorm's fleece at 2 months old Sandstorm 20 September 2009

Alpacas are "always born in the morning" unless you are Sandstorm in which case 7.54pm is just fine, thank you. An all night vigil then followed with Debbie camped out in a cold field shelter (Sandstorm had a nice heat lamp) with Little Miss Irraquoy protecting him but not feeding him. We had no choice but to milk LMI to get the valuable colostrum into Sandstorm. With a stunning pedigree including: LMI (Erringa Park Peruvian Irraquoy (NWA Ltd. Ruffo)) and Cambridge Buckingham (Jolimont Commisario), his fantastic fawn fleece is packed full of character and we hope we will become a future Barnacre herdsire. His only appearance on the show circuit was at the Border Union Show in 2010 where he was awarded 1st place junior fawn.

Tenzing Born: 27 May 2009 Colour: white

Tenzing - 28 May 2009

Tenzing 20 September 2009

The progeny of Veruschka, our elite white girl from Wessex Fernando (Purrumbete Ledgers Dream) and the Accoyo Stud El Maestro of Purston, he is a fantastic boy with brilliant genetics and a great personality. For some reason he likes to lie next to the food bucket and trough and kick it?! Tenzing is a very playful chap who loves to chase and neck wrestle.

Of all the 2009 cria Tenzing has proved to be the easiest to halter train.

Wynfor Born: 15 July 2010 Colour: white

This is Wynfor ("Win-vor"), more updates to follow...
