During the Covid-19 lockdowns in 2020 Herts Alpacas Grey Indie Sky (Indie) and his mate and fellow stud Aramist, moved 250 miles north to live with us. Indie is rose grey whereas his friend Aramist is steel grey. We’re grateful to Nigel and Katie for giving us the opportunity to have these wonderful and complimentary males.

A double champion in the show ring, Indie is a big boy with great substance of bone and vast amounts of fleece. He is very chilled out and does love to pose as you can see in the photos below. His dam and her dam are grey and so there is good depth of colour. His offspring, 17 so far to us and clients, are all growing well with 8 of them grey to a variety of dam colours. Genetics – As we discovered on our trip to Herts Alpacas, Nigel is a deep student of the genetic make up of his alpacas and Indie is no exception. Both his sire and dam’s line have some wonderful names including Neptune of Houghton, Rural Alianza Wiracocha of WSX and NWA Ltd Ruffo (one of our favourites).

Fleece – Grey is one of our most popular knitwear colours and Indie makes a good contribution here both in terms of quality and quantity. We’re also very pleased with the fleeces he is passing on to his offspring.

Personality – A lovely gentleman, Indie is rarely in any hurly burly, although he does love to pose to the ladies. He has also discovered that our walk ‘n’ talkers carry tasty carrot treats!

Colour – Rose Grey

Progeny –  With a different genetic profile to our other greys, Indie is throwing rose and steel grey cria. Aylswood Scathach won Champion Grey female at the Westmorland County Show and was 5th at the National Halter Show. Other than that we’ve had brown and black to a variety of dam colours. We’re quite excited to cross over our various grey lines…sometimes it’s too easy to wish the years away with your mating decisions!
